Low Smoke Benefits

The low smoke feature measures the quantity of smoke in case of emergency such as combustion. This feature helps to determine the smoke density generated during a fire. For our nVent ERIFLEX Flexible Conductors such as nVent ERIFLEX Flexibar Advanced and IBS/IBSB Advanced,  this property is in compliance with UL 2885 and IEC 60754-2, meaning that the light transmittance improved the visibility.

nVent ERIFLEX Busbar Supports, Insulators, Distribution and Power Blocks are tested and compliant to ISO 5659-2.

Low smoke Advanced Technology means greater safety for individuals, less damage for your electrical equipment and less environmental impact.

Halogen Free Conductor and Insulation Material

As further chemical research demonstrates halogen materials’ highly corrosive and toxic nature, the demand for halogen-free solutions has risen to protect both electrical equipment and safety of people.

Advanced Technology meets halogen-free requirements according to IEC 60754-1 and/or UL 2885 standards. In the case of a fire, Advanced Technology does not induce corrosive gases and instead produces mainly steam with a low level of carbon monoxide.

Advanced Technology contains halogen-free materials and offers better protection for people’s safety and your electrical installation by reducing corrosion and smoke generation.

Advanced Technology can be easily use in various application such as enclosed data centers, rail and other spaces where the health and safety of people is of utmost importance, such as hospitals and schools.

Advanced Technology can be also installed in specific applications due to with increased regulations such as submarines, switchboards and other enclosed environments that require a low emissions solution.

Flame Retardant Benefits

Flame WP Chart

Advanced Technology is a unique combination of thermoplastic or glass fibre reinforced polyamide low smoke, halogen-free and flame retardant features that reduces the fire hazards and mitigates by delaying the ignition, reducing the heat dissipation and increasing escape time. Flame retardant feature, Advanced Technology is compliant to UL 94-V0 and/or IEC 60695-2-11 Glow Wire test 960°C. The flame retardant portion of the test illustrates the self-extinguishing feature and reducing the risk of the spread of fire and less damage to your electrical installation. It also reduces the damage on electrical installations. Advanced Technology is also demonstrated its superior feature with a Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) at 30%.

High Temperature

Thanks to its unique features, Advanced Technology insulation used with  Flexibar Advanced and IBS/IBSB Advanced is also a Class II conductor with a high temperature resistance 115°C.

This working temperature reduces the risk of hot points at the connecting area. The operating temperature of an electrical cable normally refers to the minimum and maximum temperature that the cable can safely operate at for a sustained period of time.

This operating temperature is determined by the insulation and/or sheathing material around the cable. A typical PVC insulation material has a temperature range of -15°C to 70°C.

The thermoplastic used with our power and distribution blocks allow ambient temperature around those devices up to 40°C without derating.

With glass fibre reinforced polyamide used with our nVent ERIFLEX Insulators and Busbar Supports provide a working temperature from -40 to 130 °C

Solid Palm and Tinned Connection

Advanced Technology flat conductors manufactured with pure copper and tin protected palm. nVent ERIFLEX Power and Distribution blocks manufactured with pure copper or aluminum and tin protected, allows for copper or aluminum conductor connections.

Tinned Copper Offers:

  • Better corrosion resistance
  • Longevity (10 times longer in certain application)
  • Higher contact electrical conductivity
  • Compliant with various specifications/countries and niche applications
  • Strong performance with less maintenance
  • Allows for copper or aluminum conductor connections

Several UL standards require tinned copper:

  • UL67 (Panelboards), Section 10.1.5 – joints must be plated with tin, silver, nickel, or cadmium above 600A
  • UL891 (Switchboards), Section 8.8.1.1.5 – joints must be plated with tin, silver, or nickel above 600A
  • UL845 (Motor Control Centers), Section 8.2.9 – bolted connection over 600A shall be plated with tin or silver
  • UL508A (Industrial Control Panels), Section 29.3.10 – bolted connections over 600A shall be plated with tin, silver, or nickel

Industries that require tinned copper include:

  • Marine and off-shore
  • Oil and gas
  • Water treatment
  • Nuclear
  • Chemical industry
