Challenge

This semisubmersible drilling rig had to be suitable for all year round operation in harsh arctic environments of the Barentz Sea. Equipment, walkways and personnel had to be protected from arctic elements.

Solution

Together with a local partner, nVent designed, engineered, installed and commissioned a complete winterization system, including anti-icing and de-icing of walkways, stairs and emergency exits, equipment, etc… in compliance with Norwegian regulations. The drilling rig holds a DNV WINTERIZATION BASIC class notation.
