Challenge

The Adriatic LNG Terminal, located 15 km offshore in the Northern Adriatic Sea, was the first offshore Gravity Based Structure for unloading, storing and regasifying Liquefied Natural Gas. The concrete foundation of 2 large tanks had to be heated to prevent thermal stress.

Solution

nVent RAYCHEM skin-effect heat tracing System (STS) was  the only system capable of providing the uniform heat required across all concrete walls efficiently. In total 1.8MW of power was installed.
