Roof Protection on a 9th Century Castle

Roof Protection on a 9th Century Castle

Leeds, England

Challenge:

During a winter audit, damage caused to the roof by the refreezing of ice and snow was identified. A long-term and energy-efficient solution was needed to avoid future damage with little to no maintenance.

Solution:

A phased installation of IceStop self-regulating cable began on the castle’s vast tiled roof. Because the cable only heat based on ambient temperature, it offers an energy-efficient alternative to other solutions. Two multi-circuit control systems were also installed, allowing the cables to be control when ambient temperature dropped and ice or snow was detected.
